    His Holiness Aram I congratulates Syriac Orthodox Patriarch-elect
    Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim

    Antelias - 31 March 2014. On Monday the morning His Holiness Aram I
    accompanied by the Prelates of the Dioceses of Lebanon, Syria and Tehran,
    visited Patriarch-elect Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim at the Atchaneh Monastery in
    Lebanon.

    During their conversation they discussed the centuries-old relationship
    between the two churches and the urgency of continuing to work together in
    the Middle East.


    The Council of Religion and the Prelates of all Dioceses of the
    Catholicosate of Cilicia meet in Antelias

    Antelias - 1 April 2014. In the morning His Holiness Aram I presided over
    the meeting of the Council of Religion with the participation of all the
    Prelates.

    The members of the Council received reports on ecumenical and interfaith
    activities of the church, discussed interim reports on coordinating the
    rites of the Church and classification of Saints. In relation to the 100th
    anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the Council decided to:

    Celebrate the Blessing of the Holy Muron on 19 July 2015, in Bikfaya
    near the Genocide Memorial.
    2..
    Have the Dioceses in the diaspora organize a pilgrimage to Antelias from
    13-20 July 2015.
    3..
    Provide urgent assistance to the displaced Armenian population of Kessab
    in Latakia, all those who have left their homes within Syria, and the
    refugees in Lebanon.


    His Holiness Aram I receives the Baroness Valerie Amos , the UN
    Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief

    Anteilias - 2 April 2014. On Wednesday evening the UN-Undersecretary
    Baroness Valerie Amos, who was on a one-day visit to Lebanon to discuss the
    status of Syrian refugees, met with His Holiness Aram I in Antelias.

    His Holiness Aram I welcomed the Under-Secretary and expressed his
    appreciation to her for including the situation in Kessab in her report to
    the Security Council. The Catholicos explained the circumstances under which
    the population had left and their current situation in Latakia. His Holiness
    also spoke of the precarious situation of all Armenians, those displaced
    from their homes in other parts of Syria and the current refugees in
    Lebanon. He then provided the Baroness with reports and fact sheets on the
    situation in both countries.
    Kurt Cardinal Koch, President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting
    Christian Unity visits His Holiness Aram I

    Antelias - 29 March 2014. On Saturday morning, Cardinal Kurt Koch,
    accompanied by his staff and the Apostolic Nuncio to Lebanon Gabriele
    Giordano Caccia, visited His Holiness Aram I. Archbishop Nareg Alemezian,
    the Ecumenical Officer of the Catholicosate, was also present at the
    meeting.

    The Cardinal and His Holiness covered a wide range of issues, starting
    with the ecumenical movement and the Roman Catholic Church, the activities
    of the Middle East Council of Churches, bilateral dialogues, problems and
    concerns related to the life of the two churches and interfaith matters.
    They also discussed the centuries-old relationship between the Roman
    Catholic Church and the Catholicosate of Cilicia. In this context Catholicos
    Aram I proposed that current relations between the two churches be further
    strengthened on international, regional levels.

    The meeting ended with an update on the situation in Lebanon and the
    forthcoming presidential elections.
