MOSCOW April 7
- The situation in the Armenian-populated north-western town of Kessab
is clear evidence of continuing de-Christianisation in the Middle East,
Russia's expert has said.
"Fifteen million Christians have died in the Middle East over the past
100 years. Kessab is just evidence of continuing de-Christianization
of the Middle East," the president of the Moscow Institute for Middle
East Studies, Yevgeny Satanovsky, told Itar-Tass on Monday.
On March 22, Syria's Kessab was attacked by Jebhat al-Nusra and Ahrar
al-Sham gunmen who had crossed the border from Turkey. According to
unofficial sources, 80 people died.
"Turkey is responsible for certain involvement in what has happened
in Kessab although it denies it," Satanovsky said.
