Georgian parliament's MPs of Armenian origin submitted a written
address to the UN Secretary General in connection with the events in
Kessab, a Syrian town on border with Turkey.
Tachat Vardapetyan, chairman of the "Unity of Armenians of Georgia"
union, said the Armenians of Javakhk are following the developments
related to Armenia and Armenians all over the globe.
"Samvel Petrosyan, Henzel Mkoyan and Ruslan Poghosyan - members
of Georgian parliament - submitted a written address to the UN
Secretary General with an aim to attract world's attention and condemn
anti-Armenian policy of Turkey in Kessab, an Armenian-populated region
of Syria," he told reporters on Thursday.
On March 21, armed militants from the Jabhat al-Nusra Islamic
terrorist group infiltrated into northern Syria's Latakia Governorate,
which is predominantly inhabited by Armenians and Alawites, from four
directions. Two large groups of terrorists had launched the attack from
Turkey. About 600 Kessab-Armenian families were initially sheltered
in Latakia city. A group of Armenia parliament members had visited
Syria to assess the situation in the region.
