Atom Egoyan, Cannes Film Festival
The Cannes Film Festival has announced the official selection of films
vying for the prestigious Palme d'Or, and also revealed which movies
will be screened in the 'out of competition' selection. This year's
official competition includes Canadian Armenian director Atom Egoyan's
'The Captive."
Egoyan's The Captive, starring Ryan Reynolds as a man looking for
his kidnapped daughter, is his sixth competition film.
Starring the likes of Ryan Reynolds, Mireille Enos, Scott Speedman,
Rosario Dawson, Kevin Durand, Alexia Fast and Bruce Greenwood, the
synopsis for the psychological thriller is as follows: A pick up truck
pulls off the highway at a diner. Confident that his young daughter
is safe in the back seat and promising to return with ice cream, the
father slips out of his truck and into the diner. When he returns,
she is gone.
The Captive examines how this kidnapping destroys the relationships
among those involved. As the film teases out the complex threads
weaving together the victim, her family, the predators and the
investigators, the mystery is revealed as to what happened to the
child during the eight years she was missing.
