Scarce-water year expected for Armenia ` Hydrometeorological Service

YEREVAN. ` A threat of water shortage awaits Armenia this year,
Nikolay Grigoryan, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Emergency Situation
(MES) Rescue Service, noted at Friday's meeting in the ministry.
`The precipitations were less than the average, the air temperature,
[is] high, and the height of the snow cover is significantly less than
the average. The river outlets likewise are lower than the average; it
will be a scarce-water year,' MES Hydrometeorological Service official
Levon Azizyan noted for his part, the Rescue Service informed.
At the end of the talk, Grigoryan called upon Armenia's farmers to be
alert, and he urged them to use irrigation water economically so as to
minimize potential losses in case of a water shortage.
