TWO TRENDS IN ARMENIA'S FOREIGN RELATIONS NOW" ALEXANDER MARGAROV
14:09 â?¢ 29.04.14
Two trends can be observed in Armenia now.
The first is what has been stated at different levels in Armenia,
particularly by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan in Prague. That is,
Armenia is ready, in the broad sense of the word, for a dialogue under
the EU Eastern Partnership program, political scientist Alexander
Margarov told reporters on Tuesday.
In this context, he recalled German Ambassador to Armenia Reiner
Morell's remarks concerning changes in the format of potential
cooperation.
"On the other hand, it is clear that the founders of the Customs
Union take on further commitment to reformat this all into Eurasian
economic cooperation. And we are now speaking of how well Armenia
meet this trend," Margarov said.
According to him, "new things" should be expected from Minsk, where the
Eurasian economic conference is taking place. According to Spokesman
for Armenia's foreign office Tigran Balayan, Armenia's high-level
participation in not planned.
Margarov believes that that the three Customs Union founder states
could discuss Armenia's potential accession to the Customs Union,
its format and status.
If Armenia follows this course, the founding member status is better
for it. However, further negotiations are in question now.
