GOVERNMENT PLANS TO MAKE UP FOR SEVAN WATER LEVEL DECLINE BY END OF YEAR

YEREVAN, August 14. /ARKA/. Armenia's ministry of environment
intends to make up for reduction in water level in Sevan after the
irrigation season is over, by the end of the year, the minister
    Aramayis Grigoryan said.

Demand for irrigation, hence withdrawal from Sevan were high this year
due to dry weather conditions, the minister said. Unfortunately, the
parliament had to amend the law and increase the maximum withdrawal
from Sevan up to 270 million cubic meters, of which 130 million has
    been already used, Grigoryan said.

The minister reminded that water level in Sevan is to be increased
to 1,903.5 meters. Bearing in mind the long-term schedule, the level
has been already exceeded by one meter, he added.

According to Armenia's State Water Committee, the level of water in
Sevan Lake dropped by 9 centimeters to 1,900 meters and 48 centimeters
in July 2014 compared to the same period of the year before. -0--
