Armenia's gross wheat crops went 85.4% up over four years

    16.08.2014

Armenia's gross wheat crops has grown by almost 156,000 tons or 85.4%
over the last four years and will reach about 340,000 tons in 2014,
Armenia's minister of agriculture Sergo Karapetyan said at a
    government meeting on Thursday.

Certain problems were found, yet good results recorded during
implementation of the seed farming program, the minister said. The
seed productivity has been improved - from 21.2 centners per hectare
in 2010 to 32 centners this year, according to Karapetyan.

Apart from this, the area under crops has grown by 29,300 hectares or
18.4% over the last four years and is now 188,600 hectares, as
opposite to downward trend recorded before 2010.

About 40 farms created under the program are engaged in seed
    production, the minister said.

The government meeting approved the seed farming program for
2010-2014. Priority will be given to hail affected communities in
    distributing the seeds.
