The Armenian issue and the Cyprus dispute stand high on Turkey's
foreign political agenda, FM Ahmet Davutoglu has said in a speech at
the ruling Justice and Development party's meeting.
Davutoglu was appointed the head of the party following the
resignation of President-elect Recep Tayyip Erdogan as the country's
prime minister.
Hurriyet reports that the special meeting in Ankara was full of
historic and religious symbolism, as Davutoglu made references to
Prophet Mohammet, Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror and Mustafa Kemal
Ataturk, the founder of the Turkish Republic.
Milliyet quotes him as addressing the Armenian and Cypriot issues and
saying that the two questions will never cease being a key concern on
the country's foreign policy agenda.
Davutoglu further said that EU accession is a tactical matter for Turkey.
He also also reportedly cited the issue of Kurds, and the Gezi park
protests, considering them major political problems for the country.
He described Justice and Development as a party of principles not just
one individual.
