PRELATE SALUTES CALIFORNIA STATE SENATE
RECOGNITION OF ARTSAKH
On Wednesday, August 27, 2014, the California State Senate passed
AJR-32 recognizing the independence of Artsakh and formally calling upon the
President and Congress to support the self-determination and democratic
independence of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. The vote follows a similar
decision by the California State Assembly on May 8.
H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, welcomed this
historic vote, stating, `at a time when the Armenian nation prepares to
commemorate the Genocide centennial, the passage of this resolution is a
step forward for Artsakh and also for the pursuit of our rights, and gives
impetus to our continued efforts as we move ahead in our quest for justice'.
The Prelate highly commended the hard work of the ANCA-WR leadership and
volunteers as well as the principled stand of Assembly and Senate members.
`We anticipate for Washington to follow in the example of the California
Legislature', said His Eminence.

PRELATE TO PRESIDE OVER DIVINE LITURGY
AT THE NORTH HOLLYWOOD PARISH
On Sunday, August 31, 2014, H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian,
Prelate, will preside over Divine Liturgy and deliver the sermon at the
Armenian Apostolic Church of North Hollywood.
Following the service the Prelate will meet with parish Board of
Trustees members to discuss future endeavors.

99TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF MUSA DAGH TO BE COMMEMORATED IN FRESNO AND
LOS ANGELES
This year marks the 99th anniversary of the heroic battle of Musa
Dagh. Each year, Armenian communities from Anjar and across the world
commemorate the heroic resistance of their forefathers with church services,
madagh blessing, and various festivities.
On Saturday, August 30 and Sunday, August 31, the annual
commemoration organized by the Musa Dagh Commemorative Committee will be
held in Fresno, at the Fresno County Peace Officers Association Training
Grounds located at 7633 N. Weber Ave.
By the ordinance of the Prelate, Rev. Fr. Boghos Tinkjian will
arrive in Fresno on Saturday to participate in the preparation of the madagh
with prayer, and on Sunday morning will celebrate Divine Liturgy and conduct
the blessing of madagh.
A commemoration organized by the Mousa Ler Association of California
will be held at Camp Arev in Frazier Park on Saturday, September 6 and
Sunday, September 7, featuring a lecture by Dr. Vahram Shemmassian, a
festival, and on Sunday morning Divine Liturgy, requiem, and blessing of
Herissa. By the ordinance of the Prelate, Rev. Fr. Boghos Tinkjian will
conduct services.

PRELATE EXPRESSES SOLIDARITY TO THE LEBANESE ARMY
On Saturday, August 23, 2014, a gathering in solidarity with the
Lebanese army was held at the American Druze Society center in Eagle Rock.
The event was hosted by the Consulate General of Lebanon.
At the event, H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate,
expressed his solidarity to Consul General Johnny Ibrahim and Lebanese
compatriots. Consulate advisory board members Mr. Vahan Bezdikian and Mr.
Toros Kejejian participated in the gathering.

PRELATE PAYS SPECIAL VISIT TO ECCLESIASTICAL BROTHERHOOD IN CELEBRATION OF
THE FEAST OF ASSUMPTION
By the invitation of Armenian Ecclesiastical Brotherhood Board
members, throughout the year H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian visits
the Brotherhood center on various occasions to conduct special prayer
services. Brotherhood members also visit the Prelacy on occasion to receive
the Prelate's blessings for their endeavors.
On Friday, August 22, 2014, the Prelate paid a visit to the
Brotherhood center in Glendale to conduct a special service in celebration
of the Feast of the Assumption of the Holy Mother of God. Joining His
Eminence were Rev. Fr. Boghos Tinkjian, Rev. Fr. Boghos Baltayan, Rev. Fr.
Ardak Demirjian, and Rev. Fr. Ghevont Kirazian.
The program began with the Lord's Prayer. In his welcoming remarks,
Brotherhood Chairman Avo Kabakjouzian spoke of the Brotherhood's service and
especially of the Prelate's support and encouragement of their mission
throughout the years, recalling that seventeen years earlier His Eminence
had conducted the opening of their present headquarters.
The cultural program included a medley of religious songs presented
by children, recitation of Bible passages by young adults, a solo by young
member Andre Garabedian, and a hymn dedicated to the Feast of Assumption
sung by Garineh Hagopjanian.
Brother Avo then invited the Prelate and clergy to begin the
service.
The service began with the singing of hymns dedicated to the Feast,
which was followed by the blessing of grapes. His Eminence then introduced
the accompanying clergy and assured the members that the clergy members are
ready to pay visits to the Brotherhood center and offer their spiritual
services. The Prelate spoke of the characteristics and virtues of the Holy
Mother of God, which are memorialized in the Armenian Apostolic Church by
our hymn writers, beseeched the intercession of the Virgin Mary, and invited
the women present to follow in her example by submitting to the Lord's will
and living a God-pleasing life. In conclusion, the Prelate raised a prayer
for peace in the world and especially in the Middle East.
The program concluded with the Cilician anthem.
A reception followed, at the conclusion of which Brother Avo
expressed thanks and gratitude to the Prelate and clergy for their care and
support, and promised that the Brotherhood and all its members will
faithfully continue to advance the traditions and tenets of the Armenian
Apostolic Church.
The Prelate once again conveyed his blessings and well wishes, and
concluded the evening with a requiem prayer in memory of departed
Brotherhood members.

TAVLIAN PRE-SCHOOL COMMENCES NEW SCHOOL YEAR
WITH PRELATE'S BLESSINGS
On Friday, August 22, 2014, Levon and Hasmig Tavlian Pre-School in
Pasadena commenced the 2014-2015 academic year. The new school year began
with the blessings of H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, who
conducted the opening ceremony. His Eminence was accompanied by Rev. Fr.
Boghos Baltayan.
Upon his arrival to the School the Prelate was greeted by the
Director, Mrs. Helen Manoucherian, teachers, St. Sarkis Church Board of
Trustees and Ladies Guild members, Board of Regents and School Board
members, parents, and students. The program began with the recitation of
the Lord's Prayer by the students. The Prelate then conducted the blessing
of salt, bread, and water and conveyed well wishes for a successful new
year. Mrs. Manoucherian delivered welcoming remarks thanking the Prelate
for his presence and welcoming the students back to school. The students
then headed to their classrooms.
The Prelate visited the classrooms where the students welcomed him
with songs and recitations. His Eminence blessed them and spoke to them
about being good students and good children. The young students promised to
be hard working, to pray, to love and respect their school, teachers, and
parents, and to be proud Armenians.
