NEW DETAILS ABOUT THE AIRCRAFT LANDED AT GYUMRI FROM LIBYA AND TAKEN UNDER CONTROL BY EPIDEMIOLOGISTS
December 4 2014
As we have informed, yesterday, the cargo aircraft taking the flight
from Libya to Armenia landed at "Shirak" airport, Gyumri. "Zvartnots"
airport Spokesman Gevorg Abrahamyan told Aravot.am that this aircraft
had made a scheduled landing at "Shirak" airport, it should not have
landed at "Zvartnots" airport, and according to our information that
the latter was not allowed to land at "Zvartnots" airport because
of the fear of Ebola, are not true. According to Gevorg Abrahamyan,
it always landed at "Shirak" airport. Vardan Urutyan, Head of Shirak
Office of National Center for Disease Control and Prevention at the
Ministry of Health, who promptly had sent the epidemiologists to
"Shirak" airport and considered his duty to investigate and take the
data of the crew, also reported some details to Aravot.am, "We received
information "Shirak" airport that a non-scheduled cargo aircraft from
Libya was to land at Gyumri. Of course, Libya is not in the list
of countries presenting risk of Ebola, but since it is an African
country, for the sake of safety, I promptly sent our epidemiologists
to the airport. Only after taking the temperature of the crewmembers
and making some investigations, they were allowed to get off the
plane. Naturally, we gathered information about them, registered
the passport data and found out that 3 of them are from the Russian
Federation, 1 - from Ukraine and the rest from Estonia. They were
in Libya, but in a closed area, they were not allowed to leave the
airport in Libya and spent an overnight there. Then, they traveled
to Armenia, I do not know why, but they arrived in Gyumri by an
unscheduled flight. I cannot tell why the plane did not land at
"Zvartnots" airport, they informed us that they were supposed to
land at "Zvartnots", so it was planned initially, but on the way,
they had received instructions from their leadership to land at
Gyumri. They are very intelligent and educated people, they are also
very well aware of the risks of Ebola. We registered that they are from
"Veteran Avia" company and transport cargo, they will stay in Armenia
until their leadership gives a command where to fly after the cargo,
they do not how long they will stay, maybe they will fly to Leningrad
or a different city right tomorrow. In short, they are waiting for
instructions. Now, they are at "Vanatur" hotel in Gyumri, in the
evening, I, personally, together with the epidemiologist, visited
the hotel; we took measures so that, God forbid, something would not
happen suddenly, but I repeat that they are healthy people. We had
done all of this to be on the safe side," said our interlocutor. We
tried to contact the "Veteran Avia" company Armenia representatives
by the telephone number taken from the "Spyur" Information Center,
but their phone numbers did not work, sometimes we could hear that
this number does not exist, or the number was busy. However, it
should be noted that, according to the Internet data, this airline
was founded in 2009, in Sharjah Emirate, the United Arab Emirates,
and its main base is in Yerevan, "Zvartnots" airport, it performs
cargo transportation to Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
