ARMENIA'S IT SECTOR NEEDS 2,000 QUALITY SPECIALISTS - SYNOSIS ARMENIA CHIEF

Synopsys Armenia's executive director stressed the importance of
training highly qualified IT specialists, as he addressed the problems
in the sector at the Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen's Seventh
Congress in Yerevan.
Hovik Musalyan said that the sector currently needs 2,000
highly-trained professionals in the country.
"The problem is that our universities are not able to train appropriate
human resources to meet the demand on the market. It has two objective
reasons. One has to do with the faculty. The other is that the
sector is a dynamically developing branch, and frequent trainings
for professors are important, but they are very costly," he noted.
As a second important factor, Musaelyan cited the technical basis.
"Foreign universities spend scores and millions of dollars for labs,
which we do not have in Armenia. I don't think the government has
anything to do here; private cooperation may produce results," he said,
meantime hailing a new parliamentary measure envisaging several years'
tax exemptions for newly established IT companies.
