Turkey is driven by serious concerns ahead of the 2015 Genocide
centennial, the Armenian Genocide-Museum Institute's director said
today, commenting on the country's stance on the tragic anniversary.
"Turkey is in a state of isolation," Hayk Demoyan said in a speech at
a conference devoted to strategies towards the international
recognition of Genocide and the legal-political methods and diplomatic
steps towards the reparation of losses.
Demoyan said he sees that the country's fears are linked to
territorial and financial losses that it may suffer in the wake of
acknowledging the historical fact. He also pointed out to
psychological problems.
Demoyan further cited a Turkish politician's remark describing 2015 as
a penalty kick for Turkey. "I would say this is a penalty kick with
two balls, one to Turkey's history and the other - to the goal of
future," he added.
