Russia ready to take part in building railway service to Georgia,
Armenia via Abkhazia - Lavrov
BASEL December 5.
. Russia is ready to take part in building a railway service to
Georgia and Armenia via Abkhazia, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei
Lavrov said on Friday
"The railway line runs through Abkhazia and Georgia, to Armenia. That
is why all parties should take part in this process," he said.
"We are ready for it," Lavrov added.
"Those who deal with transport problems should present their arguments
and then decisions should be taken by political leaders," he said.
After the talks with Abkhazian President Raul Khadzhimba in Sochi on
November 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin said, "Russia and
Abkhazia are ready to create are ready to consider the creation of
transit railways between Moscow, Sukhumi, Tbilisi and Yerevan."
"If all the parties agree, we believe it is possible to jointly
consider this project and then construct transit railways, connecting
the Georgian cities of Sukhumi and Tbilisi with Armenia on one side
and Russia on the other", Putin told the media.
The president stressed that projects like that would help create the
necessary conditions for developing cooperation between all the
