HELICOPTER INCIDENT CANCELED OUT THREE ARMENIAN-AZERBAIJANI PRESIDENTIAL MEETINGS - KAREN BEKARYAN

Chairman of the European Integration NGO Karen Bekaryan summed up
this year in the context of the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process at a
meeting with reporters on Thursday.
He spoke of the three Armenian-Azerbaijani presidential meetings
organized by the co-chairing states.
According to him, the first two meetings were aimed to defuse tension.
The third meeting, organized by the French president, inspired a hope
for confidence-building and progress in the peace process.
The meetings were followed by a short period of cautious optimism,
which was followed by the incident with the Nagorno-Karabakh
helicopter.
"And the incident canceled out the three meetings," Mr Bekaryan said.
With respect to the mediators' role, he said that monopolizing it by
any of the co-chairing countries poses a great threat.
According to Mr Bekaryan, July and August saw psychological progress.
Specifically, Azerbaijan's illogical thesis that not resuming
hostilities was a concession on Azerbaijan's part was debunked
especially because it influenced the international community.
