Police officer Aida Demirkhanyan is demanding 1 million AMD (about
$2,450 USD) compensation from activist Vardges Gaspari for harming
her dignity. In particular, Demirkhanyan was offended when in court
Gaspari said the police representative "is more undignified than
women who stand by the lake" (referring to sex workers).
The incident occurred in the Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron
and Nork Marash Administrative Districts of Yerevan, where being
heard was the police lawsuit against Gaspari in which the police are
asking for 50,000 AMD ($122.50) for Gaspari calling law enforcement
officers "villains, scoundrels, and criminals" while protesting
outside Harsnaqar restaurant.
The activist reaffirmed his opinion of the police in court and also
made a statement about Demirkhanyan.
Gaspari, in conversation with Epress.am, said police officers
themselves cause damage to their dignity by following illegal orders.
The case for compensation of 1 million AMD was admitted by the court.
The first hearing will be held on Mar. 17.
Note, there is another administrative ruling against the activist,
according to which he must pay 30,000 AMD ($73) for blocking traffic
during his protest outside Harsnaqar.
According to Gaspari, the police have filed other cases against him,
demanding financial compensation. Nevertheless, he informed Epress.am,
his opinion about the police remains unchanged.
