EMERGENCY MINISTRY SAW REAL PROGRESS THANKS TO REFORMS, SAYS PRESIDENT

    17:59 * 05.02.14

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, who visited the Ministry of
Emergency Situations on Wednesday, has praised the agency for effective
work which he said has contributed to a real progress.

At a working meeting with the Ministry's staff, the president said
that the effective management and capacity building have helped raise
the level of the services rendered.

"I do see - and that's a reality without exaggeration - that we have
a progress in the capacity building of emergencies management. The
ministry's accomplishment continues at normal paces. And it is very
important for us not to slow them down, but work instead to speed them
up and to say in future that the Ministry of Emergency Situations has
become accomplished and the reforms have helped create services that
offer quality services to our citizens facing emergencies," he said.

The president further stressed the importance of developing cooperation
with other services and agencies, particularly, the police and
    healthcare institutions.

"I am naturally aware that this sector too, has seen reforms. But
there are a great deal of things we must be able to overcome. After
all, our citizens do not know - and I don't think they are obliged
to know - which ministry is supposed to avert the hazards they are
facing or to offer assistance. Hence it is necessary to develop the
911 service to enable the system to work in a coordinated manner to
offer high-quality services to the population within very short time
    limits," Sargsyan added.

He then called for expanding the geography of the services to increase
their accessibility across all the regions.

"This is an extremely important issue, so it is, of course, important
to work in this direction. [The population] in the regions thinks
the residents of Yerevan benefit from high-quality services they
do not have access to. All believe that what is done in Yerevan is
not so urgent etc. There is, certainly, a subjective approach here,
but your work and the services you offer require quality work also
    in the regions," Sargsyan added.

The president wished the Ministry's staff success, promising a
government attention to their capacity strengthening efforts and
    social problems.

At the end of the meeting, several employees of the Ministry were
    honored with acknowledgement awards.
