The authoritarian regime of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan
is creating problems for Europe, Turkologist Levon Hovsepian told a
press conference today.
In his words, statements of high-ranking European officials about
the Armenian Genocide should be viewed in this context.
"Given the fact that the Genocide recognition subject was touched
upon at the meeting of the Turkish prime minister and the German
chancellor, this is a remarkable phenomenon ahead of the Armenian
Genocide's centennial. It is hard to say what developments will take
place later, but it is obvious that we will witness some processes,"
l. Hovsepian said.
He stressed that Turkey uses serious financial and diplomatic resources
for the denial of the Armenian Genocide. Besides, Turkey will attempt
to become a factor in the Karabakh problem settlement.
"Turkey is becoming unpredictable even for its partners and the
world is dealing with a country that is extremely confident in its
own strength," the Turkologist noted.
We would remind you that at the meeting of the Turkish prime minister
and the German chancellor in February of this year, Erdogan warned
Angela Merkel and the Christian Democratic Union led by her to use
caution when allocating budget funds for the centennial of the Armenian
Genocide. According to the Turkish mass media, in response Angela
Merkel criticized the Turkish premier for continuing the policy of the
Armenian Genocide's denial. She urged Erdogan to face Turkey's history.
