The programme on building of the third tailings of Tukhmanuk gold
mine caused protest of residents of the nearby Melikghyugh village.
On 10 and 12 February "Mego gold" company and Armenia's Nature
Protection Ministry held public hearings on the project in
Yerevan.Silva Adamyan, member of the Public Environmental Alliance,
told Arminfo correspondent that the gold mine near Melikghyugh village
is located in the area where sources of irrigation water are formed.
For this reason, the village residents are categorically against
fulfillment of the project. She also added that yesterday ecologists
told her that representatives of the "Mega gold" company deliver
bribes to the residents with a hope to get their "approval".
"Melikgyugh residents promised us to do everything possible for
the third tailing not to be built", -she said. Representatives of
ecological NGOs are going to visit Melikgyugh on 15 February to learn
the situation.
