STUDENTS DRAW ATTENTION TO CASE OF WOMAN PROTESTING OUTSIDE PRESIDENTIAL PALACE FOR 1.5 YEARS

Mkhitar Sebastatsi Educational Complex students today rallied outside
the Armenian presidential residence in defense of Emma Sahakyan who
has been demonstrating there for more than 1.5 years.
The students held signs with red arrows and flanked either side of
Sahakyan to draw the public's and officials' attention to, as they say,
this special case of human rights violation.
Sahakyan has been protesting outside the presidential administration
since June 2012. During this time, she's also staged a hunger strike,
which she terminated on the 21st day -- at the request of activists.
Sahakyan insists that four years ago, her niece deprived her of
her apartment which was registered in her name and which her other
sister left to her in her will. For three years, Sahakyan appealed
to the courts, but she lost the case, since, according to Sahakyan,
her niece had produced forged documents.
When Sahakyan began her protest, Epress.am spoke also with her niece,
Susanna Margaryan, who said her aunt is defaming her.
"In 2006, my aunt changed her will and left the apartment to my son.
Apart from the will, she also made a donation. The owner of the
property, my [other] aunt, removed Emma's registration from the
apartment. She is defaming me, and the press is reporting without
knowing whom it's all about," said Margaryan, adding that Sahakyan
has two children, who "have to help their mother."
