GEORGIAN PRESIDENT: WE TOOK AWAY ADJARA AND JAVAKHETI BEFORE RUSSIA'S FACE
February 27, 2014 | 16:26
Former Georgian president Mikheil Saakhashvili said Ukraine's victory
may have historical significance for the entire region.
"This victory is of historical significance not only for Ukraine,
but the entire region, for Georgia. I think this is collapse of
Soviet Union, collapse of Soviet way of thinking," he told Georgian
television.
The Ukrainian revolution spoils "the myth of Russia's might", he added.
Saakashvili believes Russia wants to create the same scenario, as
they once did in Tskhinval and Abkhazia.
"We have taken away Adjara and Javakheti before Russia's face. Russian
military bases were in both places. Unless the Rose Revolution and
reforms, Russia would have declared Adjara independent, while Javakheti
would have been singled out," former Georgian leader said.
