AZERBAIJANI PRESIDENT HOPES FOR PROGRESS IN KARABAKH SETTLEMENT

- Azerbaijan hopes that progress will be achieved in the talks on
the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement, President Ilkham Aliyev said at a
government session devoted to the social and economic development.
There has been no progress within the year, Aliyev said.
At the same time, the president said, "At the end of 2013 the parties'
efforts were more active on this track."
"International mediators are trying to achieve progress in the Karabakh
settlement. I should say their activities yielded no results.
It's real. We heard positive statements from the mediators and the
heads of state. I want to note that the joint statements by the OSCE
Minsk Group co-chairmen rivet attention to inadmissibility of status
quo," the Azerbaijani president said.
Baku seeks to settle the conflict by peaceful means. "Azerbaijan
takes a constructive position. I hope that the mediators will play
more active role in the negotiations," Aliyev added.
He specified the principles, which were the basis for signing a peace
agreement between the warring parties. Armenia should comply with the
four resolutions of the U.N. Security Council and free the occupied
territories, Aliyev said, adding "The problem should be and will be
solved within Azerbaijan's territorial integrity."
