diplomacy' - Armenian MP

YEREVAN. - Anne Brasseur, future president of the Parliamentary
Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), always opposed the
anti-democratic procedures inAzerbaijan and the `caviar diplomacy' of
that country.
Member of Armenian National Assembly (NA) delegation to PACE,
non-pro-government Prosperous Armenia Party NA Faction Secretary Naira
Zohrabyan told the aforementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am.
In Zohrabyan's words, we should not have special expectations from the
forthcoming change in the PACE chairmanship, since the next PACE
president is obligated to be guided by the fundamental
values - democracy, human rights, and freedom of speech - of the Council
of Europe.
`Three members - including myself - of our delegation are members in the
Alliance of Liberals and Democrats [forEurope in the PACE], which is
headed by Anne Brasseur,' she noted.
Zohrabyan added that Brasseur is a woman of principle.
`She is quite impartial toward any violation of human rights,
democracy, and she is truly committed to the fundamental values of
PACE,' the Armenian MP stated.
The next PACE session will be convened from January 27 to 31, during
which the new PACE president will be elected, and Anne Brasseur will
replace serving President Jean-Claude Mignon in this capacity.
