Yazidis living in Armenia are emigrating rapidly. If in the past they
left the country because of a lack of jobs and poor socioeconomic
conditions, added to these problems now is the high utility bills,
reports local daily Zhoghovurd in today's issue.
Chair of the Union of Yezidis of Armenia Aziz Tamoyan, in conversation
with the paper, said that the Yezidi people don't have work, so they
are unable to feed their families.
"Not only the Yezidis, but also Armenians live in poor social
conditions. The number of Yazidis living in Armenia today has been
reduced by half. They're leaving. The recent rise in the price of
electricity and gas also contributed to this. People can't survive.
Earn a little bit of money to what? [Choose between] buying food for
their livestock or paying the utility bills?" he said.
