Armenia,Georgia : ARMENIAN Minister, GEORGIAN Ambassador talk about
collaboration in context of ARMENIA s joining Customs Union
Further collaboration between Armenia and Georgia in the context of
the choice by Armenia to join the Customs Union were talked about
during a conference of Armenian Economy Minister Vahram Avanesyan and
Georgian Ambassador Tengiz Sharmanashvili.
During the conference the sides talked about problems on the growth of
the Armenian-Georgian economic relations. In particular, they
emphasized the significance of holding the next conference of the
intergovernmental commission, as well as the future conference of the
working group on trade and economic problems.
The Eurasian customs union is a form of trade and economic
incorporation of the Republic of Belarus, Kazakhstan and the Russian
Federation which makes sure a single customs territory.
Customs duties and limits of economic nature are not used in the
mutual trade of goods with the exemption of special protective,
antidumping and countervailing actions within this territory. The
member nations of the customs union apply a unified customs tariff and
other common actions to control trade in goods with third nations.
The Customs Union of the three nations started functioning in January
2012. Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Syria, Vietnam, New Zealand and Armenia
have uttered a wish on making accession to the Customs Union. As a
result of discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in early
September in Moscow, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan mentioned that
he has verified Armenia's wish to join the Customs Union and to be
involved in the procedure of establishment of the Eurasian Economic
Union.
