Planned co-authored CIS history book may cause explosion - Armenian publisher

    15:56 - 26.01.14

A co-authored history book for the Commonwealth of Independence States
(CIS) members will produce so much `noxious gas' that it will cause an
explosion, Director of the Antares publishing house Armen Martirosyan
    told Tert.am.

Citing Finland's example, he noted that `we have good relations with
Russia now and forget our lost territories for 50 years.'

As azatutyun.am reported earlier, Chairperson of the RF Federation
Council Valentina Matviyenko had stated that a co-authored CIS history
    book would be released.

Martirosyan noted that the USSR leadership's policy of control
resulted in bloodshed after the USSR collapsed.

`They gave Karabakh to Azerbaijan, with the status of autonomous
region. The same thing had happened with Nakhijevan. The problem of
Transdniestria and others - they did it on purpose to be able to
    control,' he said.

He forecasts a number of problems with the planned history book.

`For example, Russia may date `a victory day' in Latvia, whereas for
Latvians it is the date of occupation of their country. Or Ukraine's
    Holodomor and others,' Martirosyan said.

People's perception of their own history is different. Perception is
even different during different periods of one and the same state's
history. For example, different assessments of developments in Russia
during the presidency of Boris Yeltsin and Vladimir Putin.

Armenia should not reject the history book. However, `we can
peacefully present the Armenian side's approaches and do our best for
them to be incorporated in the textbook.'
