Arabist Araks Pashayan addressed the latest developments in Syria at
a meeting with journalists on Monday.
According to her, the security of Syria's Armenian community is a
major challenge to Armenia.
"The Armenian community may suffer further losses," Pashayan said. If
the war goes on, the Armenian community in Aleppo may cease to exist.
With respect to the Geneva II Conference on Syria, she said:
"Although the conference is supposed to settle the conflict, no
changes are taking place. The conflicting parties - the authorities
and opposition - are each holding its ground. In any case, the talks
behind closed doors must be continued until February 1."
The situation in Syria is aggravating the regional crisis - it has
reached the Caucasus.
"The conflict caused a major controversy in Azerbaijan," Pashayan
said. She noted radical Islamic organizations are carrying our
large-scale activities.
