SERZH SARGSYAN RECEIVED THE KEY TO THE CITY OF BUENOS AIRES
(Agencia Prensa Armenia).- The Head of Government of the Autonomous
City of Buenos Aires Mauricio Macrigave handed President Serzh Sargsyan
the key to the city of Buenos Aires in the afternoon.
After a private interview, Macri predicted a new meeting as he expects
to "be elected President of the Nation." The Head of Government said
that the Armenian community is known "for their strength and their
hard work" while Sargsyan thanked the distinction and said that it
is a satisfaction to know that "my countrymen have contributed and
continue to contribute to the enlargement of one of the major world
cities, such as Buenos Aires."
In addition, the Chief of Staff of the City, Horacio Rodriguez Larreta,
and Senator Gabriela Michetti gave him the award ofDistinguished
Visitor that the Buenos Aires Legislature approved unanimously last
week. The General Secretary of Government Marcos Peña, Undersecretary
of International Relations Fulvio Pompeo and Deputy Federico Pinedo
also participated of the event.
Hours later, Sargsyan visited the National Congress, where he was
received by the members of the Argentine-Armenian friendship group
and ratified the principles that both countries have in common in
terms of foreign policy, including support for the recognition of the
Armenian Genocide by Argentina, and support for Argentina's position
on the issue of Malvinas by Armenia.
President of the Chamber of Deputies, Julian Dominguez, and the
interim Senate President Gerardo Zamora, presented him a copy of the
"Declaration of Ushuaia" and a copy of the book Martin Fierro.
"Our bilateral relations in the context of the growing cooperation
has increased in recent years both in terms of trade, political and
cultural sphere" said Dominguez, and recalled the enactment of Law
26,199 that declared to April 24 as "Day of Action for tolerance and
respect between peoples."
Sargsyan stressed the "courageous position of Argentina to recognize
by law the suffering of the Armenian people" and said that this visit
marks "the deep and genuine commitment for the future between the two
countries." The event was attended by Deputies Ricardo Alfonsin, Juan
Carlos Zabalza, Mara Brawer, Patricia Gimenez, Graciela Boyadjian,
María del Carmen Bianchi and Senator Liliana Negre de Alonso.
