NAIRIT PROTEST: PM HEARS COMPLAINTS OF CHEMICAL PLANT'S WORKERS

Hundreds of workers of Armenia's idling chemical plant marched to the
government building on Thursday morning to demand their back wages
for over a year. The protesters said the plant owes them salaries
    for 15-16 months.

Before the start of the regular Cabinet meeting Prime Minister Hovik
Abrahamyan came down to meet the protesters. He reportedly told them
that the issue was "at the stage of examination". The head of the
government reportedly asked the Nairit workers to set up a group of
20 whom he would receive after the Cabinet session to discuss the
    matter in detail.

This is not the first time Nairit workers have staged protests near
government offices. Apart from demanding their back wages they also
want clarity on the future of the sole chloroprene rubber producer
in the entire post-Soviet space that has been idling for the past
three years. More than half of Nairit's 2,700 employees have been on
    furlough, awaiting resumption of production.
