NATO OFFICIAL: COOPERATION WITH ARMENIA BASED ON UNDERSTANDING OF YEREVAN'S FOREIGN POLICY PRIORITIES

YEREVAN. - Relations between Armenia and NATO have been developing
with understanding of Yerevan's foreign policy priorities, the Alliance
representative said.
Despina Afentouli from NATO Public Diplomacy Division's Engagements
Section was one of the participants of "New security challenges and
NATO" conference held in Yerevan on Thursday.
She emphasized that the Alliance has a good dialogue with Armenia
and cooperation on security issues, adding that Armenian Armed Forces
are participating in NATO peacekeeping operations.
As to NATO enlargement and Russia's attitude, she noted that it is
a stable component of the strategic vision of the Alliance. This
component is contained in the basic documents of the Alliance as well
as open door policy, which implies that all European countries may
express a wish to join NATO. Then this country has to fulfill certain
conditions for membership.
