ARMENIA'S LAKE SEVAN IS DRYING OUT - NEWSPAPER
July 12, 2014 | 07:58
YEREVAN. - More than 140 million cubic meters of water already has
been released from Armenia's Lake Sevan this year for irrigation and
energy purposes and, as a result, there is a drop in the level of
the lake, Hayots Ashkharh daily reported.
"As of July 10 of last year, Lake Sevan was 1,900 meters and 59
centimeters above sea level, which is 10 centimeters more than the
indicator for the same day this year.
"Releasing of water from Lake Sevan continues, whereas water is not
transported to the Lake from the Arpa-Sevan water tunnel.
"The water entry into Lake Sevan has dropped also as a result of
irrigation-based water intake from the rivers flowing into the lake,"
Hayots Ashkharh wrote.
