Mika-Cement, the Hrazdan Cement Factory formerly belonging to Armavia
founder Mika Baghdasarov, is said to have a new owner.
Citing its sources, the paper says that a former minister of defense,
Gagik Melkonyan, has purchased the plant. Speaking to Zhoghovurd,
Melkonyan admitted that he is going to personally follow the company's
work. "I may not be a chief, but [the plant] will be under my control
not to face the fate it did," he told the paper.
The former deputy minister added that the new owners are going to
return all debts accumulated over the course of years and give the
personnel their unpaid salaries.
The paper notes that Melkonyan was sacked from office ahead of the
March 2008 tragic post-electoral turmoil (after first President and
current opposition leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan declared that the deputy
minister had joined his campaign to contest the outcome of the
presidential polls).
