In an interview with Tert.am, Russian-Armenian businessman Levon
Hayrapetyan's representative, Matsak Poladyan, commented on the
charges brought against his business partner.
"I have information at my disposal, but I cannot tell you the details.
However, I can assure you I am extremely optimistic," he said.
"At present, two or three charges have remained. Neither Levon nor we
have any doubts that they are trumped up charges."
A source close to the Russian publication Vedomosti had earlier said
that Hayrapetyan received remuneration as an intermediary when
purchasing BFK Sistema's oil assets from Bashkortostan President Ural
Rahimov's son.
According to the investigators, the amount may reach $50m, which has
been confirmed by Mr Hayrapetyan's lawyer Igor Komarov. Junior Rahimov
is the prime suspect in the case, with Mr Hayrapetyan being number one
person involved.
"Deals effected with shares six years ago are in question. This guy is
in the United States now, and he is not on the list of wanted. Levon
purchased only 3.5% of those shares."
