CEASEFIRE VIOLATIONS AND THREAT OF FORCE DERAIL PEACE PROCESS OVER KARABAKH - SEZH SARGSYAN
14:31 * 04.06.14
At his meeting with the Swiss leader in Yerevan, the Armenian president
reaffirmed the country's desire to achieve a maximum quick solution
to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
"We agree that the problem cannot have a military solution, as that
will only complicate the situation more. The threat to use force and
the repeated violations of ceasefire derail the negotiation process.
When we speak of confidence-strengthening measures, we clearly state
that the expression of respect for the Nagorno-Karabakh people is of
primary importance. This struggle is, after all, a national-liberation
one, so no solution is possible without consideration of this,"
Serzh Sargsyan told reporters after the talks with Didier Burkhalter.
The president reiterated Armenia's stance on the Nagorno-Karabakh
conflict settlement talks, particularly the necessity of considering
the NK population's opinion in the peace process.
"We agreed that the co-chairmanship of the OSCE Minsk Group is the
most optimal format of conflict settlement. I asked the president of
Switzerland to convey to the colleagues in the organization Armenia's
unbiased interest in continuing the mutual cooperation in democratic
reforms, human rights and freedom of speech," he added.
