Russian Minister of Economic Development Alexey Ulyukayev has just
visited Azerbaijan. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Deputy Prime
Minister Dmitry Rogozin are also scheduled to pay a visit to the
Caucasian country soon.
According to Vladimir Yevseyev, the head of the Caucasus Department
of the CIS Institute, these visits show that bilateral cooperation
between the two countries is developing successfully.
"Bilateral cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan is manifold," the
expert says. "I guess one of the aims of these visits is to discuss
integration projects in the region, to decrease the tensions raised
by Armenia's integration into the Eurasian Union."
Among other issues to be discussed are US-Azerbaijani relations
and Azerbaijan's role in Russian-Iranian cooperation projects, the
expert notes.
