EURASIAN UNION DOESN'T AT ALL MEAN USSR REBIRTH, BELARUSIAN POLITICAL SCIENTIST CLAIMS

Vadim Gigin
Yerevan /Mediamax/. Belarusian political scientist, chief editor
of "Belaruskaya Dumka" magazine Vadim Gigin stated today that
establishment of Eurasian Economic Union doesn't at all mean rebirth
of USSR.
"On no account should we say that Eurasian Union is the USSR rebirth.
There won't be any infringement of sovereignty. It's the principal
position of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia. Nobody wants to go back
to the past. We are building a completely new and dynamic process",
the Belarusian political scientist told journalists in Yerevan.
According to him, unlike European integration which offers a ready
model, the rules of the game are formed by the very participants of
the integration process in case of Eurasian integration.
"Indeed, transnational structures are set up. But their establishment
is based on an equal footing. Creating a new integration community,
we can shape the rules of the game by ourselves. We become not the
objects which are imposed anything but subjects which form a new
agenda", stressed Vadim Gigin.
He noted that Armenia's membership to Eurasian Economic Union is
very important for Belarus. "Russia and Kazakhstan are oil and gas
producers. They export raw resources. As for us - Armenia and Belarus
- we are importers. When Armenia joins Eurasian Union our interests
will equal", said Gigin.
