The Institute of Manuscripts of the National Academy of Sciences of
Azerbaijan (NASA) has uncovered 153 previously unknown historical
documents and manuscripts connected with Azerbaijan in the Vatican's
libraries. An employee of this institute, Fareed Alekperli, found
them while training in the Vatican's confidential archive and the
Vatican's Apostolic Library.
The scientist studied more than 700 documents in the confidential
archive, and 85 of them were connected with the history of Azerbaijan.
They are written in Italian, Latin, Greek, French, Arab, Persian,
Turkish, Mongolian, Armenian and other languages and belong to
extremely different periods of history, from the 10th to the 20th
centuries.
Among the finds from the Apostolic Library are works from the quills
of Nizami, Fizuli, Nasimi, Shabistari and others, and also 11 works
of previously unknown authors, Trend reports.
