A nuclear deal between Iran and the West was possible within the next
five weeks, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Saturday. "I am sure
that with the necessary goodwill it is possible to reach an ideal
agreement within the next five weeks," he said at a press conference
in Tehran.
President of Iran Hassan Rouhani considers it possible to reach an
agreement with the international mediators on the nuclear program by
July 20, Reuters reports on Saturday. According to him, this is
possible provided that flexibility is demonstrated. Rouhani also noted
that Iran believed in the success of diplomacy in negotiations with
the "Sextet", but in case an agreement was not reached by July 20, the
situation would remain the same.
Another round of talks between Iran and the six international
mediators (Russia, the USA, the UK, China, Germany and France) is
expected in Vienna on June 16. The goal of the negotiations is to
achieve a final agreement on guaranteeing transparency of the Iranian
nuclear program for the Western countries and exclusion of a possible
military component from it in exchange for the lifting of the economic
sanctions.
As it was decided in Geneva in November, 2013, a comprehensive
agreement, which guarantees the absence of a military component in the
Iranian nuclear program, should be developed by July 20. Earlier, the
Iranian President said that Iran would do its best for the agreement
to be reached.
