The Armenian Catholic archbishop of Aleppo, Syria's largest city,
has told the Fides news agency that rebel forces have surrounded the
city and are targeting churches.
Archbishop Boutros Marayati said that he and his Orthodox counterpart
have "found homes and schools destroyed, and many people have sought
refuge in churches, which are also targeted."
Rebel forces have also gained control of the city's water supply and
have cut off water to the city for days at a time. "In our churches
and mosques, in order to meet the emergency, we have reactivated
ancient wells that provide access to groundwater faults," said
Archbishop Marayati.
