ARMENIAN NATIONAL CONGRESS MPS RAISE 'MARCH 1 MURDERS' ISSUE AT MEETING WITH PACE CO-RAPPORTEURS
17:34 * 17.06.14
Axel Fischer and Alan Meale, PACE co-rapporteurs for the monitoring
of Armenia, have arrived in Armenia and held meetings with the six
groups of Armenia's Parliament.
Following the meeting, Head of the Armenian National Congress (ANC)
parliamentary group Levon Zurabyan told reporters that five issues
were raised at the meeting. He reminded the co-rapporteurs of his
severe criticism of their "not having dealt with Armenia."
Mr Zurabyan said that the first issue on the meeting agenda was
"March 1."
"I noticed they were seriously discussing the issue and I did not miss
a chance to raise the issue. I said that using lethal weapons against
protesters is the most dangerous thing. We drew parallels with the
Ukraine developments. We stressed that if they had adequately responded
to the March 1 events and forced Armenia's authorities to find those
responsible, Yanukovich would probably not have done what he did,
and numerous victims would have been prevented," Mr Zurabyan said.
He told the co-rapporteurs that the opposition and Armenia's
authorities reached a consensus to set up an ad hoc commission to
investigate "the covered up March 1 murders."
"They broke their own promise and said that was one of the main
proofs that the state leaders' were involved, which is the actual
reason for the cover-up," Mr Zurabyan said.
