KARABAKH MP: ARMENIA AND KARABAKH NEED TO SIGN TREATY TO FORM STRATEGIC ALLIANCE SHORTLY
June 17, 2014 | 14:54
Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh need to sign inter-state treaty to
form a strategic alliance shortly, Karabakh parliament's deputy
Vitaly Balasanyan said in an interview with newspaper of National
Revival party.
The Karabakh MP said it is necessary to sign a document within OSCE
Minsk Group or other international agencies that will rule out the use
of force. Such measures will contribute to strengthening of ceasefire
regime, he said.
Balasanyan noted that warlike statements of the Azerbaijani side
must become a focus for international community and first of all Iran
and Russia.
"Azerbaijan's numerous ethnic groups do not want war. We lived side by
side and know each other well. Azerbaijanis always sent representatives
of national minorities to the front line. In the case of a new war,
our victory will be final, Azerbaijan will surrender.
Our mistake is that today, our borders are not stretching along the
historical border of Kura-Araks-Iran. Instead of thanking for this,
the Azerbaijani authorities threaten new war. Probably they did not
learn their lesson well back in 1990," Balasanyan said.
With regard to the Madrid principles, Karabakh MP considers their
implementation unacceptable.
"It's dangerous principles that will lead to even greater
difficulties. The current distorted format of Karabakh-Azerbaijani
conflict settlement is unacceptable for the Karabakh side. There is
need to develop new principles involving Nagorno-Karabakh, whether
within or outside the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group," Balasanyan
said, pointing to the need for international recognition of NKR as
a modern mechanism for security guarantees.
