Former Armenian prime minister Tigran Sarkisyan has been appointed as
the country's new ambassador to the United States. The corresponding
document has been signed by President Serzh Sargsyan, the president's
press service reports.
Sarkisyan served as the head of the Armenian government from 2008
to 2014.
According to Russian expert Andrey Areshev, the Armenian president's
decision seems logical since the former head of the cabinet has good
ties with US officials.
"As far as I know there were several options. For instance, Sarkisyan
could have been appointed as the new ambassador to the EU. I guess
the final decision was based on Sarkisyan's close ties with some US
officials, including Vice President Joseph Biden," the expert said.
