    Tigran Sarkisyan was Armenia's prime minister from April 2008 to April 2014

    YEREVAN, June 26. /ITAR-TASS/. Armenia's former Prime Minister Tigran
    Sarkisyan on Thursday was appointed ambassador extraordinary and
    plenipotentiary to the United States, the Armenian president's press
    service said.

    Tigran Sarkisyan was born to a family of journalists in Kirovakan
    (now Vanadzor), the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic, on January
    29, 1960. He graduated with honors from the Leningrad Financial
    and Economic Institute named after N.A. Voznesensky with a degree
    in economics. Sarkisyan received a postgraduate degree in his alma
    mater in 1987. He is candidate of economic sciences.

    In May 1990, Sarkisyan was elected deputy of the Supreme Soviet of
    Armenia and chair of the Standing Commission of the Armenian Supreme
    Soviet for financial, credit and budget issues in August 1990.

    In 1995-1998, Sarkisyan headed the Association of Armenian Banks and
    simultaneously the public Scientific Research Institute for Public
    Reforms in a Transitional Period.

    >From March 1998 to April 2008, Sarkisyan headed the Central Bank
    of Armenia. In 2005-2007, he was simultaneously the head of the
    Inter-State Bank council.

    Sarkisyan was Armenia's prime minister from April 2008 to April 2014.

    He is a council member of the ruling Republic Party of Armenia.
