AZERBAIJAN CONDUCTS LIE PROPAGANDA AGAINST US CO-CHAIR OF OSCE MINSK GROUP

YEREVAN, MARCH 3, ARMENPRESS: The efforts of Azerbaijan to distort
the history brought to the fact that the Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign
Minister Araz Azimov made a statement against the OSCE Minsk Group
Co-Chair, Ambassador James Warlick. Armenpress reports, citing the
Azerbaijani APA news agency that Azimov criticized the note made
by the US co-chair in his Twitter concerning the Sumgait massacres,
accusing him of not studying the Karabakh conflict issue properly.
The Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov stated that Warlick
shared his views on the events on Twitter and noted that Twitter is
not the place to discuss such issues. "I cannot respond to Warlick
on Twitter, because the message on Twitter must consist of only 120
letters. Warlick has recently been appointed to this post and should
view the realities of the conflict", - said Azimov.
The OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair, Ambassador James Warlick made a note
in his Twitter page on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the
Armenian massacres organized in the city of Sumgait in Azerbaijan. "We
remember Sumgait too. Both Armenia and Azerbaijan should support
"people to people" projects to establish tolerance and confidence,"
the diplomat noted.
The massacre of the Armenian population in Sumgait, which is located
20 km from Baku, started on February 26, 1988. The Armenians were
attacked and killed both on the streets and in their apartments; the
silence of the Soviet authorities allowed the situation to worsen and
the violence reached its ultimate point on February 28. Those events
were largely supported by the police and government. The massacres
were unprecedented with their cruelty and inhumanity.
