ARMENIA TO DISCUSS BUYING 2 BILLION CUBIC METERS OF IRANIAN GAS - MINISTER
YEREVAN, March 19. / ARKA /. Armenian energy and natural resources
minister Armen Movsisyan said to the Armenian service of Radio
Liberty Wednesday that he would discuss the possibility of purchasing
2 billion cubic meters of Iranian gas during his visit to Iran to
attend a regular sitting of the Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental
commission on economic cooperation.
During a meeting with reporters on Saturday, Iranian ambassador to
Armenia, Mohammed Reisi, indicated that Tehran could offer to supply
natural gas to Armenia on new, more beneficial terms.
In a 2013 December news conference, Reisi claimed that Yerevan did
not seek to officially negotiate with Tehran over more large-scale
gas supplies at a cheaper price.
The gas pipeline between Iran and Armenia was commissioned in 2007. In
Armenia the Iranian gas is converted into electricity for export
to Iran.
In return for one cubic meter of gas Armenia exports 3 kWh of
electricity. Under the agreement Iran is to supply 36 billion cubic
meters in 20 years. The agreement can be prolonged by another five
years. -0-
