Ukraine is not going to sever diplomatic ties with Armenia over remarks
on the Crimea, Ihor Roman, an advisor at the Ukrainian Embassy in
Yerevan, has said.
"Ukraine is not planning to sever diplomatic relations with Armenia
or lower their level. Ambassador Ivan Kukhta, who has left for Kyiv
for consultations, will return to Armenia next week," Roman said. The
ambassador will continue performing his mission in Yerevan regardless
of how Armenia votes on a resolution regarding Crimea proposed by
Ukraine at the UN General Assembly. Last week, Ukraine withdrew
its ambassador to Yerevan after Armenia's President Serzh Sarkisian
effectively endorsed the illegal referendum in Crimea which voted
for joining Russia, in a telephone conversation with his Russian
counterpart Vladimir Putin. The phone talk reportedly initiated by
the Armenian side took place a day after Moscow and leaders of the
separatist Ukrainian region signed agreements on the peninsula's
becoming part of Russia.
