Yerevan, March 27. /Mediamax/. Head of EU Delegation to Armenia,
Ambassador Traian Hristea virtually ruled out the possibility of
signing the political part of EU Association Agreement with Armenia
today.
Answering the question as to whether the EU might initial the political
part of the Association Agreement with Armenia, just like in case of
Ukraine, the Ambassador stated that "EU-Armenia relations are being
developed based on the statement adopted at Vilnius Summit in November,
2013", Mediamax reports.
"Ukraine's signing the political part of the Association Agreement was
thought to set precedent for other countries as well, including for
Armenia. However, I would not like to draw a comparison with Ukraine.
As of today, Armenia-EU relations are being developed according to
the statement signed in Vilnius", he said.
According to him, Armenian authorities have applied to the EU offering
to continue and deepen sector cooperation in discrete areas.
"We hope to have the areas of sector cooperation made clear in the
future in spheres such as human rights, justice, corruption combat,
investment climate, etc.", summed up the Ambassador.
Mediamax recalls that Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said
during his speech at EPP Summit in Brussels last week that "initialing
the political part of the Association Agreement without the Deep and
Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement is perhaps the best option
for Armenia".
