FOREIGN MINISTER DAVUTOGLU MEETS WITH ARCHBISHOP ARAM ATESHYAN,
GENERAL VICAR OF ARMENIAN PATRIARCH IN TURKEY

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Mr. Ahmet DavutoÄŸlu met with
Archbishop Aram AteÃ...Ÿyan, General Vicar of Armenian Patriarch in
Turkey and his accompanying delegation on May 1, 2014. Mr. Mehmet
Grmez, Head of Religious Affairs of Turkey also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, views were exchanged on the establishment of
dialogue channels between the Turkish and Armenian people around the
world, Turkey - Armenia relations and the message by Turkish Prime
Minister Mr. Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan on the events of 1915 dated April
23, 2014.
Speaking to the press following the meeting, Foreign Minister
DavutoÄŸlu touched upon the message of Prime Minister ErdoÄŸan on the
events of 1915 and said "Besides the Turkish-Armenian friendship
extending over 9th century as well as culture of living together in
Anatolia, there are the sufferings experienced particularly during the
World War I. We have always supported that everybody should take a
stand against these sufferings with a totally humanitarian and
conscientious perspective. The message of Prime Minister ErdoÄŸan
points out a new era".
Noting that perceptions concerning Prime Minister ErdoÄŸan's message
and international reactions were addressed in the meeting as well, "We
hope that in these territories where people has lived in peace for
centuries, peace and toleration atmosphere will prevail forever and we
also hope that the hand of friendship we offer will be always
received" said Foreign Minister DavutoÄŸlu.
Stressing that all perceptions, on a sudden, would not change with
only one message, Foreign Minister DavutoÄŸlu also voiced his belief
that in the forthcoming period, Turkish and Armenian people by
understanding each other better will establish relations in all around
the world.
