EDUARD SHARMAZANOV: THERE ARE TWO KEY ACTORS IN THE SOUTH CAUCASUS REGION - TURKEY AND RUSSIA: ARMENIA HAS MADE A RIGHT CHOICE

There are two key actors in South Caucasus region - Turkey and Russia,
Eduard Sharmazanov, Vice Speaker of Armenian Parliament, Spokesman for
the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), said during a meeting
with the students of the Armenian State Pedagogical University.
He said that in this region, which is complicated from the geopolitical
point of view, Armenia should get a right direction and that it has
already done it. "Armenia, which lacks a rich natural potential and
is surrounded by such neighbors as Turkey and Azerbaijan, cannot help
integrating into a military and political alliance. We have done it by
choosing the CSTO. An alternative to it is another alliance and Turkey
is among its members. I consider Armenia's choice to be justified and
time-proved. Russia is a natural partner of Armenia. It should also
be noted that no organization, except the CSTO, has declared Armenia's
guarantees in case of Azerbaijan's attacks on it", said Sharmazanov.
In the meantime, it does not mean that Armenia should not deepen its
relations with Europe. "Time has shown that Armenia's policy is correct
and Europe has realized it. The high-ranking European officials have
changed their statements made after Armenia announced its intention
to join the Customs Union. Now the European officials express their
willingness to continue the cooperation with Armenia in conducting
the democratic reforms", he said.
