ARMENIA: FRUIT AND BERRY PRODUCTION DECREASES BY A QUARTER IN 2014

May 22 2014
The Armenian ministry of Agriculture expects the fruit and berry
production in the country will be 250,000 to 258,000 tonnes in 2014.
Last year the production amount was still 338,100 tonnes, reports
the Armenian news agency Arka on its website.
The decrease in the production is linked to a cold spell in March:
a lot of snow fall on the 30th of March combined with strong wind
and a strong decrease in temperature caused considerable losses in
the Armenian agriculture, which are estimated at 27 million American
dollars (19.7 million Euro). According to figures from the ministry
the area affected was 9,185 hectares in total.
